INFOSProject: Multifunctional Pet Furniture
Completion date: 05/2024
Location: Melbourne
Architect: Paola Bagna
CREDITSPhotographer: Never Too Small
Paola Bagna was one of the 11 international designers selected to consider how pet houses might be better designed for small apartments, particularly if they could be made to last longer and serve multiple functions.
Organised by Colin Chee, creative director of the YouTube channel Never Too Small, the Multifunctional Pet Furniture prototypes were showcased during Melbourne Design Week 2024.
The material available for each designer was a single sheet of plywood.
The piece presented was called UUOOII and is a compact stool or side table, with an integrated pet bed for a small animal. Composed of six pieces, its design allows for easy, tool-free assembly and disassembly, without a single screw required.
The simple, lightweight form also makes it easy to transport or relocate.
The idea for this piece, UUOOII, came from a series of furniture that the architect began prototyping in 2021 – the first prototypes being for a table called UOU. For Melbourne Design Festival 2024, the original design has been developed to be a bed for a pet and a seat for its owner.
